In meiner Handtasche / In my bag

In meiner Handtasche ist heute das Motto bei Nics Beauty is where you find it-Foto-Projekt.

In my handbag is today's theme at Nic's Beauty is where you find it photo project. My favorite bag and steady companion is the mustard colored co-lab bag i bought at TJ Maxx in New York last September. Little did I know that mustard colored bag would be quite trendy a few months later over here...and little do I care honestly...I just fell in love with this bag the moment I saw it even though I hated all things yellow for about 30 years! In exchange I had to leave my Kate Retro Dot bag by Storksak behind after its cross-body strap fell off during our trip...

But today is not about the bag but all about what's inside...and, um, as you can see I carry quite some stuff with me...
  • Either around my neck or in my bag: a scarf. This one is from last year's Orla Kiely collection from Uniqlo
  • Hello Kitty wallet, which I got in 2004 in Las Vegas in the first place...after it broke several years later I was super happy that i got exactly the same on ebay as a replacement.
  • Bathing cap purse by elfherz which holds some painkillers and other meds, wet wipes against sticky hands (ugh! I hate sticky hands!), deodorant, floss sticks, band aids, etc.
  • Shopping lists from the last weeks...on top the grocery list for a cook book test.
  • Now all the bits and bows I found in the pockets of my bag: nasal ointment, tissues, nail file, pen from my last job, change to get a supermarket cart, hair band, floss, comb, cough drops and two tiny screws... ;-)
  • Bottom left: keys
  • Business cards from fellow bloggers from last year's Blogst conference
  • iPhone with Moo stickers acting as band aid to keep it together
  • Not pictured but always in my bag: lip balm and nasal spray

Fernweh / Sunrise at Frankfurt Airport

Fernweh is the German term for Wanderlust and means literally translated ache for distant places or farsickness (the antonym to homesickness). But wanderlust does not really explain what I am feeling and I don't like the word too much anyway as it originates from the German words wandern (hiking) and lust (desire) – the desire to go hiking is a desire which I never have felt in my life ;) To me wanderlust expresses more something like 'Oh, have you seen this nice picture over there of the Rialto Bridge in Venice? I would love to go there, too.'...but not the constant aching feeling of missing faraway places, like the word Fernweh does.

There are people who go on holiday for about two weeks a year...a week or two under the Spain sun in summer and a few additional days of skiing in winter. Or a long weekend in a city closeby. That's it. They are happy with it. They have no desire to travel to unknown places. Visit foreign contries. Being on the road for weeks. Hear unknown languagues and eat new food. They most likely never experience what it feels like to step out of an airplane, take that first deep breath and smell the air of a different place for the first time. Or to step out of the plane and recognize where you landed by the smell of the air you inhale.

And there are poeple who don't go on holiday. People who travel. Who don't take all expense tours. Who like to blend in wherever they are. People who freak out if the only language they hear when being away from home is their mother tongue. People who want to travel for weeks or months and who want leave again as soon as they unlocked the front door of their home. People who have experieced Fernweh. Who know that heart-wrenching pain longing for foreign places especially when not being able to travel right now.

I am the latter. I never felt homesick. Of course I miss my cats terribly while traveling and wish I could take them with me...but that's it. I don't miss all the stuff that surrounds me at home and that turns an house or an apartment into an home. I don't miss my clothes. I don't miss being in my home town or a daily routine – probably because I don't have one anyway... But when being at home I basically always feel this far-ache. The longing to be somewhere else. Sometimes I feel it more. Sometimes less. But I carry this ache for far away places always in me. And sometimes it makes my heart ache as much as a unhappy love affair normally only does.

Theese images were taken at Frankfurt Airport last September. It was very early in the morning when we arrived in Frankfurt and we were able to watch the sun rising while waiting for our flight to NYC.

My little collection of white vases

Some days ago I reorganized my little collection of white vases and put them in my cook book self in the living room. I have been kind of tired of them where they have been before and even thought about putting them away...but between all those colorful cook books and infront of the charcoal grey background of the bookshelf they are pretty much my favorite home decoration thing to look at in my living room these days.

Reorganized my small collection of white vases and put them in my cook book shelf...
The shelf used to be in my kitchen and even made it to Apartment Thermapy as the cutest kitsch-en cabinet some years ago (though it looked totally different back then). The vases and the cloche are thrift store finds (except the three from IKEA). The cake plate is from Martha Stewart and was dragged home all the way from Macy's in New York City by yours truly. Still happy that it made it home in one piece...

12 VON 12 im Mai 2013 / 12 ON 12th of May 2013

Vielen Dank, liebe Nic! ♥

Some of your may have already read about or seen it over at luziapimpinella.de...I gave Nic's blog a little makeover. Nic didn't want a complete redesign for her blog – she just wanted to have some virtual spring cleaning done on her blog. So I redesigned and reorganized all of the widgets, added a new font for the post and sidebar headlines plus some cute buttons for pinning, tweeting and sharing on facebook below each post – just to name few of the changes I made...just head over to Nic and have a look!

Thanks for letting me redo your blog, dear Nic! Working with you was a pleasure and I am always happy to be back at luziapimpinella.de, either for some more cleaning work or for a visit. ♥

April in Pictures

In April I...
Thrifting Thrifting Thrifting ...went thrifting quite a lot to look for a sofa.

Mini Mini likes my new coffee table Find the cat ...had lots of fun with Mini.

Working on my Pasteis de Nata recipe Sunday morning on location Sushi at HiroSakao ...was into all different kinds of food. And taking pictures of it.

Delicious warm marble cake Mini drinking from my water glass... Working on some blog layouts...which has gotten much more comfortble thanks to the new HTML editor from @blogger ...had warm marble cake more than once, told Mini to not drink from my water glasses (instead she told Paxon that water from glasses is way better than the one in their bowl and so he started drinking my water, too!) and started working on some blogs (for clients and mine).

Waiting at the dentist #12von12 #12on12th Thinking about getting a dark grey Karlstad sofa for my studio/home office... Picked up the Karlanda sofa I scored yesterday on eBay... ...I went to the deintist, thought about getting a dark grey Karlstad sofa for my studio/home office and ended up getting a brown Karlanda sofa instead which is actually way too huge for my studio but thankfully large enough for naps ;)

Roasting sesame for Goma-ae Blanched baby spinach for the Goma-ae First time I made Goma-ae...not really happy with it! Who has a great Goma ae recipe for me? ...tried to figure out how to make Goma-ae.

I made a sofa cushion! And I'm pretty happy with it considering I haven't sewn anything in years... I even used two fabrics...but I guess the opening on the back would have been nicer horizontal instead of vertical... I turned this fabric from an old sleeping bag that I used to sleep on as a kid into a sofa cushion... ...brought out the sewing machine after collecting tons of dust sitting in my wardrobe unused for years and sewed some pillows for my new sofa.

I bought this cheap huge pillow at IKEA to use its filling for my sewing projects but now Mini fell in love with it and I can't take it away from her... I made teeny tiny American deep dish Pizza... Why did I ever make it before? #yummy Obsessed with raindrops... #watercolor ...and I also tried to convince Mini to give me back this cheap, huge pillow which I bought only to cut it and use its filling for other pillows. But she fell in love with it and now I don't have the heart to take it away from her. I also invented these teeny tiny American deep dish pizzas. And picked up painting with water colors again...

...so April was kind of busy which I really enjoyed a lot after this year started super slow. Looking forward to a equally busy May!
